(More customer reviews)This little slicer replaced the Bosch slicer, which I own. They are basically identical except for the name.
I always like ultra-thin sliced meats and cheeses. Additionally, I bake my own bread. I purchased this slicer a few years ago because I never could master thin-slicing meats, no matter the knife used. Cheese slicing, the same. There were two attractions to this slicer: one, low price in case I didn't like it, and two, it folds to a very small dimension to fit in a drawer or cabinet.
Setting up the slicer is simplicity itself: the 'table' folds down from the front of the slicer, where it also protects innocent hands from the extremely sharp circular blade. The sliding attachment that guides the food fits into a slot, and you're ready. There is a recessed knob on top that adjusts the recess determining slice thickness. The power cord fits completely into a recess under the blade side, unwinds and plugs in with a 2-prong plug.
Operation of slicer can take a little practice, a little that some other reviewers haven't had the patience to do. Because one of these can easily take the tip of a finger off, the power button must be pressed to keep the blade rotating. Additionally, there is a smaller button on the edge that must be pressed along with the power button. Therefore, the other hand guides the food into the slicer. Again, a little practice will teach the user how to best feed the food into the blade. With proper adjustment, such items as roast and ham can be sliced to virtual transparency, cheese can also be thinly sliced quite easily, and with the proper adjustment, bread can be sliced to desired thickness. As the food is sliced, it falls out the back side, where a plate or paper towel can catch the food.
I would emphasize that this blade is razor-sharp. I have owned this slicer a few years and have cut mostly meat items with mine and it has shown no sign of dulling. The blade is held to the base with a simple turn-knob in the middle of the blade, allowing it to be easily removed for careful cleaning. All surfaces are white plastic, and not difficult to clean. Again, when I read some other reviews on this machine, I wonder whether they are still looking for a self-cleaning meat slicer! There is no such thing-
This slicer is extremely lightweight to match its compact size. Perhaps it would not be heavy enough for constant, daily use. Mine hasn't had that, though it has been used very regularly. Also due to its compact size, the blade is not sufficient in diameter to slice huge hams, etc. Buy a slicer that size and it certainly will not be as easily stored as this one.
I have had no problems whatsoever with this little slicer. It has done what I wanted to do, and it has done it well. If only all my purchases were as successful!
