This is a wonderful kitchen aide for those who are not well skilled at slicing bread - it seems to be an art that requires practice. My wife and I have given many of these as gifts over the years and they've been well received and praised.
Pros:
1) It's sturdy (we've had ours for years and it's put up with a lot of use).
2) It folds to fit in drawers, bread boxes, or other smaller spaces.
3) There's no backstop to get in the way of longer loaves (some may prefer the backstop, but it gets in the way when cutting French or Italian bread loaves - just hold the loaf and all is good).
4) Tine spacing provides a good average thickness for the bread slice. If you want a different thickness, just slide the loaf (another advantage of not having a backstop).
Cons:
1) The gap between the tines is somewhat greater than needed making it necessary to hold the knife blade against the tines (a good bread knife with a single-bevel blade makes this a non-issue). This is such a minor point that it doesn't affect our rating.
Comment: We'd like to see West Bend and Amazon bring this back as our sources seem to have dried up.
